Podpad/myhabs = for wimps. Tipis just have novelty value

I would live in a yurt if I could though. All year around. =D

I wouldn't waste my money but l suppose if you have plenty of money it is normal for them. I prefer to have the fun of putting up a tent and making it my home for a while..but then l do bring the kitchen sink, l was taught by the best top musketeer. \:D/

So why do you have a caravan?
(I'm easily puzzled)

when i see the rows and rows of ready-pitched tents at festivals, it kind of leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth.

On the other hand, if I had thousands of ££ to spare, maybe I would go for the yurt option... :-k

I couldn't even contemplate the 'rows and rows' of yurts, the myhab things are so tiny and tacky and I can't believe that either makes for a real festival experience.

I used to build pod pads and yurts at festivals and have spent a couple of nights in each- Pod pads are over rated, living in an overpriced, terraced dog kennel just does not cut the mustard for me.
Yurts however are a different story, i am a big fan myself, although they take a while (and a small team of people who know what they are doing) to put up, thus i can see the appeal of paying a fortune to have one all ready for your arrival. On the whole if you go for a yurt deal that includes a bed, you actually get a propper matress and a frame, unlike the airbeds that most prefab camping providers provide.

If i was making a festival my primary holiday for the year and i wanted to splash out i would consider it, but im my experience the atmosphere in botique camping areas is never all that great.... particularly in comparison with the oxfam campsite :king:

Mr DS
tents are for festivals as l can stay in one short term but due to back problems l had to revert to a caravan for longer stays. l used to camp all the time, l am regulary down in Devon where my caravan is based as l need a proper bed ( getting old you know)

Looking at the public camping areas, certainly at the larger festivals, I think I would have difficulty handling the squalor that they choose to live in. Obviously some places are worse than others but to have another tent pitched virtually touching mine and any pathways formed of compacted rubbish is not my idea of how to camp! [-X

I could be tempted to the order and control of 'boutique camping' just to avoid the crush outside. :-$

Oops!
Only kidding - I forgot about your back problem.
Forgiven? [-o<

[I was considering adding a bit to this post about your not getting old, but I thought I may be accused of being smarmy.]

I can understand what you mean about public camping areas. At my first Oxfam stewarding experience, although the stewards, obviously, arrived before the general public, our camping area wasn't segregated (a word with very bad implications but appropriate in this context). The result was that I woke up one morning to find that I could only 'escape' from my tent with difficulty. The previous day was bad enough as someone had parked too close to the front of my tent, sort of at right angles to it (please stop me if I'm getting too technical here). I coped with that, but the problem the next morning was that they had extended 'their' territory so that egress (please stop me...) from my tent was now via a play area (including a play mat) for their children!
O.K so I'm a bit conservative about this sort of thing, but I reckon that was very inconsiderate.
On the positive side, there wasn't any compacted rubbish. [Apart from the trampled children]

At Campy B, they had this area called Camping Plus, this was where you could pay and reserve a marked plot of land and have access to specific loos and showers. So for people with megadomes, or even those who want space because they hate everyone, it's ideal... It appeared successful, and, it makes money, so I would expect to see it at other festivals soon. :cow:

as an egalitarian sort of fella, I'm inclined to take against any sort of posh camping at all. Mind you I tend to think that those whom partake of it are missing out anyway

I don't see the point in the rows and rows of dog kennels, seem to be designed for people with too much money and not enough sense! However, if money was no object I would happily pay someone to help carry all the camping gear from the car to the campsite at larger festivals. And I confess that I can't bear the public camping at glastonbury - too squashed in, too noisy, too dirty, so when I go to Glasto as a punter I take a caravan so I'm guaranteed a good nights kip! Blimey, I must be getting old! :cow:
